NAAN BREAD

vegetarian

Definitely the most fashionable food to be seen eating is a Balti curry which has to be served with the compulsory table-top naan.

Impress your friends with your own, home-made naan breads.

Serves 2

  • 250g (8 oz) self-raising flour
  • 3 tablespoons live natural yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon easy-blend dried yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt small knob of butter

Method

  1. Place the flour, yeast and salt together in a large bow and make a well in the centre. Spoon in the yogurt and gradually add about 6 tablespoons of warm water, bringing the mixture together to form a very soft, slightly sticky dough. Knead lightly for 1 minute then cover with a tea-towel and leave in a warm place for about an hour.
  2. Preheat the grill to high. Divide the dough into 2 equal pieces and roll out on a lightly floured surface into two large rectangles, each as big as your grill pan. Place under the grill for about 1 minute on the first side and 30 seconds on the other, until puffed and lightly browned.
